J. Davis Plaugher

Financial Advisor

Davis Plaugher is a Financial Advisor with Barnett Wealth Advisors in Jacksonville, FL. He started his career with Bank of America in 1998, then with Merrill Lynch and SunTrust Investments (now Truist) in the Tampa Bay area. After relocating back to Jacksonville, Davis spent time with Mercantile Bank (now TD Bank) and Fidelity Investments before going to MassMutual Financial Group in 2012.

Davis met Liza Barnett Emmet through his role at MassMutual.  Together they realized that they both share similar views on the shortcomings of the financial services industry.  When Liza left to start Barnett Wealth Advisors, Davis jumped on the invitation to join her. With that, he realized his goal of joining a truly independent practice that focuses on the client without the constraints of proprietary products or services.  This product/provider agnostic environment allows him to focus on the client’s best interests with emphasis on investments, insurance, and financial planning for their personal, or business needs.

Davis holds FINRA Series 7 through LPL Financial, Series 66 through LPL Financial and Maryland Financial Group, Inc., and Florida 2-15 Life, Health & Variable Annuities Agent License.

Davis is a native of Jacksonville, having grown up in a military family. His father was a naval aviator and retired as Captain.  As a child, he spent time also in Virginia Beach and Mayport, FL. Davis graduated in 1998 from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a Chemistry and Business minor. He and his wife have four children and enjoy living in their hometown.  In his spare time, he enjoys college football, working on home improvement projects on his own fixer-upper, and is continually in pursuit of catching the fish on his “bucket list”.

Professionally, Davis enjoys the challenge of helping clients achieve their personal, business, or financial planning goals.  He loves streamlining existing disparate strategies; making them work efficiently by implementing new complementary strategies and realizing a more cohesive overall approach.
